Illinois Service Federal Celebrates Historical Milestone
Illinois Service Federal recently celebrated 75 years of providing financial services to the Chicago community at the Museum of Science and Industry. More than 300 guests attended the soiree, hosted by WGN television anchor Micah Materre. In 1934, while the nation was experiencing economic ravages of The Great Depression, Illinois Service Federal became the first owned and operated African-American financial institution in the City of Chicago to provide African-Americans the opportunity to achieve their dreams of home ownership.
